Diving & Traveling Thailand
From turquoise seas to jungle-covered mountains
I spent four years living in Thailand, working as a dive instructor on Koh Tao and travelling around the country between seasons.
Diving shaped my time here, but so did long bus journeys, inland escapes to places like Khao Sok, and discovering how different regions feel depending on the time of year.
Thailand is easy to travel, but not every place offers the same experience. In this section, I share what I learned from living here, both underwater and on land.
Koh Tao
Koh Tao is where I spent several years working as a dive instructor, so I know the island inside out. It’s small, busy, and built around diving, full of scooters and sunset viewpoints, with an atmosphere shaped by travellers coming to get certified or squeeze in one more dive.
The diving isn’t about extreme currents or giant walls, it’s about consistency, comfort, and the occasional big fish when conditions align.
Above the surface, Koh Tao has a mix of dive culture, backpacker energy, and surprisingly peaceful corners if you step away from the main strip.
